An initiative at the heart of the Paris 2020 European Athletics Championships Volunteer Programme aims to connect international sports volunteering and European civic engagement, all while contributing to the success of the event.
This programme is managed by the Organising Committee of the European Athletics Championships,
Paris Athlé 2020.
What are the main objectives of the programme "European Volunteer and Active Citizen" ?
Create a european volunteer community contributing to the reputation of a major European sporting event ;
Create exchanges, information points and discussions on the theme of european citizenship ;
make people discover the institutions, the European programmes and the existing tools of participatory democracy ;
Develop and effectively use the potential of european talents ;
Create a heritage in connection with the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
ACTIVITIES
Some examples of activities planned in the programme "European Volunteer and Active Citizen" :
Reception and mobilisation of remote European volunteers ;
Creation of a competition combining sports and the European Union. Trip to Brussels, tickets for the Van Damme Memorial Meeting and a visit to the European Commission to win ;
Organisation of the Young Leader Forum building the young leaders of tomorrow's european athletics ;
Creation of specific modules on the european citizenship during the during the volunteers' courses ;
Providing a place for volunteers to live, a real European forum for exchange ;
Valorisation of the Volunteer Community through their participation in the closing party of the European Championships and a time of recognition regarding the Olympic Games Paris 2024;
Participation of the French and European political representatives at the highlights of the programme.

The role of the Agency for the Development of Athletics in Europe in the context of the "European Volunteer and Active Citizen" programme :
The Agency has accompanied the development and presentation of the project to the European Commission within the Erasmus+ 2019 campaign.
In collaboration with the Organising Committee of the European Athletics Championships Paris Athlé 2020 and the French Athletics Federation, ADAE proposed the methodology, wrote the content and planned the evaluation of the programme.
The project has been submitted to the "non-profit event" envelope of the sport section of the Erasmus+ programme. It is one of the 12 projects selected by the European Commission in 2019 under this envelope.
